Clashes erupted in Anantnag when hundreds of youth participated in a protest march that was led by members of Ummat e Islami, sources said.
The youth who participated in the protest march were shouting pro-freedom freedom slogans.
People started marching towards Lal Chowk, however, on reaching near Rehat Dedi, Youth started throwing stones on the forces already deployed in the main town square.
Earlier, Ummat e Islami members while addressing the gathering condemned the Shopian killing and said COAS are yet another name to a systematic genocide. The members also denounced the arrest spree and demanded the immediate release of the chairman of the party and other youth who have been arrested from the town last Friday.
The Police used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters. The clashes where going on when this report was filed.
