Police apprehends soldier at Srinagar airport with live bullets

Jammu and Kashmir police apprehended an Indian Army soldier with live ammunition at Srinagar airport on Thursday, sources said.

Ravindra Kumar of 22 Rashtriya Rifles, who was carrying live ammunition of AK-47 rifle in his luggage, has been handed over to army authorities.

According to Kumar, he had forgotten the bullets, which was detected during an X-ray scanning at the airport, in his baggage by mistake. He was scheduled to board a flight to New Delhi.

The soldier is posted at Sopore town of North Kashmir and is part of 22 Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army.

Pertinently, from past two months two Army soldiers have been apprehended with live ammunition and grenades at Srinagar International Airport.

Raj Pandiya, a soldier posted at 319 FD Hospital AMC Pattan in north Kashmir, was arrested in April, when he was carrying a live cartridge of INSAS rifle in his luggage.

Bhopal Mukhia of 17 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles was arrested with two grenades and four rounds of live ammunition at Srinagar airport in the same month.
