Director General of Police (DGP), S P Vaid, on Tuesday, said that the identification of the four militants, who were killed at Sumbal, has not yet been established.
The DGP said that apparently the four militants look like non-locals. “The identification of the four militants is yet to be ascertained. We are currently ascertaining their identification,” he said.
DGP was accompanied by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General, Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar, and they interacted with 45 Battalion CRPF Sumbal, Cheetahs of 45 and 44th Battalion.
DGP Vaid also visited the Bandipora encounter site, where four militants were killed on Monday.
The police had said that four unidentified fidayeen militants were killed in Sumbal in the wee hours of Monday.
They said that four militants had attempted to carry out a fidayeen attack on a CRPF camp in Sumbal in Bandipora. “A few militants fired on the CRPF camp, in return an alert security guard retaliated the firing. Within minutes, police and Army rushed to the spot and a gunbattle broke out in which four militants were killed.”
