LD Medical Negligence Case: Stern action expected against negligent staff

A five member committee that was formed on May 26 to inquire the causes that led to the death of an infant in Govt. Lalla Ded Hospital is all set with its report after a delay of almost 13 days.

The committee headed by HoD Gynae and Obstetrics, Govt. Medical College (GMC), Srinagar was tasked to submit its report in two days, however, due to unknown reasons, the committee failed to submit its findings in the given time frame resulting in further delay in the investigation.

Officials today said that the committee has finalized the report and is all set to submit it to the Principal and Dean, GMC in a day or two.

Confirming the development, Medical Superintendent (MS), Dr. Nazir Malik said that “the committee has finalized the report, I signed the final report and some other members are yet to sing the same,” adding that “once that is done the report will be submitted to the concerned body.”

On May 26, initially, while taking notice of the incident, MS, Lalla Ded Hospital had constituted a three member committee to look into the causes of the death, however, later, the Principal and Dean, GMC formed a five member committee and tasked it to look into the causes of the death of an infant, which automatically discarded the three member committee constituted by MS, Lalla Ded.

Sources in the hospital say that, stern action is expected against all those who were responsible for the safe and monitored delivery of the patient, who was a known case of high risk pregnancy and was negligently shifted to SMHS.

Patient namely Asifa, was shifted to SMHS on May 25, apparently, for no reason, and while returning back to Lalla Ded hospital, the ambulance driver had resorted to rash driving that led to the death of Arifa’s infant.

Sources further reveal that stern action is also expected against the concerned unit that was on duty on May 25. The head doctor, Lalla Ded, Hospital Dr. Rizwana had said that she was not aware about when and why the patient was shifted to SMHS.
