Two Hizb militants killed in Sopore encounter, bodies handed over to families

Two militants have been killed in an encounter at Nathipora area of Sopore in North Kashmir on Thursday morning.

Official sources said that government forces including Army and SOG cordoned off the suspected area in Nathipora village. As such the joint team of forces intensified the combing operation, the militants believed to be locals, opened fire, triggering off an encounter.

The slain militants were identified as Basharat Ahmad Sheikh of Bomai Sopore and Aijaz Ahmad Mir of BrathKalan Sopore.

Sources said that the bodies of both the militants have been handed over to their families for last rites. 

Arms and ammunition recovered from the encounter site. Meanwhile, authorities have barred mobile communication in parts of North Kashmir including Sopore, Handwara, Kupwara and Baramullah.

A government official when contacted told that the mobile communication has been stopped except BSNL in North Kashmir as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order following the killing of two militants.
