CCTV footage helps police hunt down militants in Sopore

The two militants who were killed in Sopore early today were behind yesterday’s grenade attack on a police station in Sopore in which four cops were injured, police said.

The grenade thrower was caught on a CCTV camera. After establishing his identity, the police arrested him during a raid. During interrogation, the accused led them to a house in Nathipora village where the two militants were hiding, NDTV quoted police sources.

The slain militants were identified as Basharat Ahmad Sheikh of Bomai Sopore and Aijaz Ahmad Mir of BrathKalan Sopore.

Sources said that the bodies of both the militants have been handed over to their families for last rites.

Meanwhile, authorities have barred mobile communication in parts of North Kashmir including Sopore, Handwara, Kupwara and Baramullah.

A government official when contacted told that the mobile communication has been stopped except BSNL in North Kashmir as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order following the killing of two militants.
