With continuous telecommunication gag, Kashmiri students studying outside are facing troubles while getting in touch with their families, back home. Some students are running short of money, while others are worried about the well-being of their families.

The students whose families live in south Kashmir are the worth hit due to the telecommunication gag that the administration has imposed soon after the killing of Hizb Commander Sabzar Bhat on Saturday.

Mir Waseem who hails from South Kashmir and is currently pursuing engineering in Bangalore, has not heard the voice of his mother from last two days, and his family too, is worried about the well-being of their son.

“I used to talk to my family every evening, after my classes were over, but from last two days I have not heard a word from their side,” said a distressed Waseem.

While talking to Waseem, Kashmir Vision came to know about another boy, Aqib, hailing from south Kashmir, currently pursuing MBA from a University in Bangalore.

Aqib’s story is somewhat different, though he does not talk to his family on regular basis, but he gets in touch with them on weekends.

Aqib is currently running short of money, and is not able to contact his family back home in South Kashmir.

“I am running short of money from last two days, I tried a lot to contact my family, but all in vain,” said Aqib.

He is currently being helped by some other friends from Kashmir, who have given him some money till he establishes contact with his family.

With his tone full of anguish, Aqib’s friend say that all day he is trying to contact his family “may be now, he is worried about the well-being of his family members,” they say.

What has been observed since 2016, when the mobile communication was altogether gagged, is that it only adds to the already existing miseries and psychological trauma of the population.

The students studying in different parts of the country are demanding an end to telecommunication gag in the Valley. 

“We demand an early end to the telecommunication shutdown, and appeal the government to resume the operations of the mobile phones,” students said.

Pertinent to mention, fearing deterioration of situation, authorities had snapped mobile internet services soon after the killing of Hizb commander, Sabzar Bhat and his close aide Faizan Muzaffar in an encounter in Tral on Saturday. Later, on the same day, calling services on mobile phones were also snapped, which continues till now.
