Geelani denounces detention of political leaders, activists

Hurriyat (G) leader Syed Ali Geelani expressed grief over the demise of the veteran leader, Dr Abdul Aala, who passed away in Muzaffarabad. Hailing his contribution for Kashmir, Geelani expressed heartfelt condolences and solidarity with the bereaved family of Dr Aala and paid tributes to the late leader.

 

Geelani also expressed his grief over the accidental death of minor daughter of Mohammad Ramzan Khan, gen secretary of People’s Freedom Party League. Geelani said that in this hour of grief, Hurriyat Conference (G) stands with grieved family.

 

Meanwhile, denouncing continuous detention of political leaders and activists, Hurriyat Conference (G) expressed deep concern over the unlawful detention of Mohammad Yusuf Parey and said that authorities while defying court orders have slapped third PSA against the ailing leader.

 

Hurriyat (G) condemned the detention of its leaders Mohammad Rustum Bhat, Mohammad Yusuf Falahi, Tariq Ahmad Ganai, Sheikh Mohd Yusuf and Ab Subhan Wani and said that ailing leaders were denied proper medical treatment.

 

Reacting to the arrest spree launched since last one year, Hurriyat (G) said that more than five hundred political leaders, activists and students are detained in different jails and police lockups.

 

Lashing out at PDP-led coalition, it said that it is very sad that even students are being arrested and lodged in detention centers. He urged International Red Cross and Amnesty international to take note of pathetic condition of political detainees.

 

Hurriyat (G) said that its activist Mohammad Amin Parey, after undergoing surgery in hospital was arrested by police and since then, he is in unlawful detention and during this period police authority instead of releasing him, slapped three PSA in a row. “He was bailed out by court, however, police slapped third PSA on Parey and shifted him to unknown destination.”

 

It also said that 70-year old Mohd Rustum Bhat and Tariq Ahmad Ganai (Shopian) are suffering from multiple ailments and no proper treatment is being provided to them. In view of his deteriorating health condition doctors advised for immediate surgery to Mohd Rustum Bhat, but neither authorities have released him nor has proper treatment been provided to them.

 

Tariq Ahmad is languishing in jail since last nine months and despite his worsening condition, no medical facility is provided to him too. Similarly, district president Shopian, Mohammad Yusuf Falahi, is ailing and no proper medical treatment is provided to him.
