Minister for Fisheries, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Abdul Gani Kohli in presence of Minister of State for Fisheries and Cooperative, Mir Zahoor Ahmad, on Saturday, inaugurated country’s first Hi-Tech Trout Feed Mill at Manasbal here.
Mr. Kohli said that High-Tech Trout Feed Mill Manasbal, that has been constructed in the premises of National Fish Seed Farm, has modern technology where quality feed for the trout fishes would be produced. He asked the officials to make optimum use of it.
He said Rs 11.40 crore had been spent on its establishment. He asked the officers of Fisheries Department to organise awareness camps to sensitize the locals about the schemes meant for adopting fish culture.
Kohli said that the area has huge potential for rearing fish and people have to come forward to avail the benefits of the government schemes. He said the people would have to establish their own fish rearing units, and this would go a long way in creating job opportunities.
Reiterating the commitment of Government for promoting fish culture in the state, the Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal and Sheep Husbandry said that the Government has initiated various steps in this regard. He said the Centre is providing liberal funds for this.
The ministers took stock of the operations of the Mother Seed Farm in Carp Sector. The officials of the Fisheries Department briefed the ministers about the activities being carried out for the development of fish culture in the state. They were informed that over 41.03 lakh seeds of different varieties of carp fish were distributed during 2016-2017.
MLA, Sumbal Sonawari Mohammad Akbar Lone, Commissioner Secretary, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, R. K. Bhagat, Director Fisheries, R N Pandita, Director Animal Husbandry, Kashmir, Dr Nazir Ahmad and other officers of concerned departments were also present on the occasion.
