CS chairs meet on horticulture development

Chief Secretary, Mr B B Vyas Saturday chaired the State Level Executive Committee (SLEC) meeting of the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH)-  a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for the holistic growth of the horticulture sector covering fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, spices, flowers and aromatic plants.

The Committee, as per the statement reviewed the progress of the activities undertaken under MIDH for the year 2016-17 in the State. “Total outlay of Rs 84.89 Cr, an amount of 73.52 Cr was spent on various components of the scheme. Similarly, under PMDP, against a total outlay of Rs 124.29 Cr, an amount of Rs 57.22 Cr was released and an expenditure of Rs 40 Cr has been recorded till date,” the statement said.

As per the statement, Chief Secretary said that for increased productivity and attaining self sufficiency, quality of root stock /plant material is a sine qua non, adding that “besides focusing on improving the quality of plant material and water use efficiency through micro-irrigation, there is need for a coordinated approach and convergence among various departments, to achieve tangible results. He also called for establishing quarantine facilities for root stock.”

For capacity-building and Human Resource Development, Chief Secretary urged the departmental officers to actively participate in various National and International Conferences/ events.
