Lift Ban on Student Unions, says Er. Rasheed

Stressing on the Government to shun its discriminatory attitude towards Kashmiri Students, Independent MLA, Langate Er Rasheed has demanded urgent lift of ban on the formation of new students unions in Colleges and Universities.

Rasheed was a participating member of a high level meeting attended by cabinet ministers, legislators and top level officers of education department in civil secretariat that was called for the review of education sector in the state.

“While students everywhere are enjoying freedom of speech and expression and can form unions and organizations for the welfare of students and discussing vital issues, Kashmir is an exception and from Higher Secondary to University level the students are deprived of this fundamental right,” he said.

Castigating the government over the issue, Rasheed said that “Government feels no shame in banning internet which has become the very basic need of any person especially students and is now using oppressive measures to curb the voice of students.”

Rasheed later sought an unconditional withdrawal of all cases against students and appealed government “not to believe the versions of security agencies which are just aimed at justifying the brutalities of security forces.”
