Ahead of his scheduled seminar at Hurriyat office, authorities on Wednesday placed Hurriyat (M) chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and his media advisor advocate Shahid ul Islam under house arrest.

Mirwaiz was scheduled to preside over a seminar at Hurriyat head office in Rajbagh.

Sources said that Mirwaiz and Islam were put under house detention at their residences in Nigeen and Sanat Nagar respectively at around 9:30 am.

“Mirwaiz was informed about his house detention at 9:30 am ahead of a proposed seminar at Hurriyat office,” media advisor to Mirwaiz advocate Shahid said.

Shahid said that he also has been placed under house arrest.

Pertinently, Hurriyat (M) is organizing different programs in connection with the death anniversary of late Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq.
