90 quintals of polythene seized during campaign launched by RDD

The department of Rural Development has seized 90 quintals of polythene in first two days of its campaign against use of Polythene in the state.

Minister for Rural Development, Abdul Haq who is personally monitoring the campaign, said 90 quintals of polythene were collected by the field staff across the state while Rs 7000 was also recovered as fine from the people using polythene.

He said the field staff of the RDD, SRLM and other allied departments have launched the campaign across the state to weed out the menace of polythene from the state. He said the process will continue till polythene is eradicated from the villages and after that no one will be allowed to use polythene. He said the collected polythene will be disposed scientifically.

Earlier the department launched an all-out campaign against the use of Polythene in the state by imposing ban on use of polythene in rural areas declaring villages as No-Polythene Zones in the state.

The department has pressed in service the manpower under MGNREGA to collect disposed polythene from all villages which will be later disposed properly. He said the government has empowered Block Development Officers (BDO) and Panchayat officers to seize the Polythene and impose fine.
