Due to the threat of shelling from across the border, several farmers are unable to cultivate their lands, which are along the Line of Control (LoC) or the International Border (IB). The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference SC cell, on Wednesday, sought compensation and free ration for them.

The co-chairman of the SC cell, Vijay Lochan said, “The PDP-BJP government has failed to instil a sense of security among the people in the border areas. They have not been able to provide safe shelters and bunkers in the wake of border skirmishes, as a result of which the farming community has suffered adversely.”

He lambasted the state government for making liberal promises before and after the formation of government and said the state government was pursuing exploitative politics just to remain in power.

Expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the Kashmir valley, Lochan said that failing to hold dialogue with the stakeholders in the state is the main reason of unrest. The government has failed on many fronts and due to this the students are coming out on the streets which in turn has impacted their academic session, people have been alienated due to the wrong policies of the state government. “The government does not exist anywhere on ground.”

Flaying the government, he went on to say that the wrong policies adopted by the state government have had a major impact on the daily wage earners, who are running helter-skelter for their livelihood. The state has hardly seen any developmental activity, which is evident in the near breakdown of utility services, highly dilapidated roads, erratic power and water supply, scarce availability of rations to the consumers at CAPD outlets.

The SC cell meeting discussed issues confronted by the weaker segments of society and expressed the insensitivity of the coalition government in fulfilling its duties. They demanded the construction of a road between Jindrah and Sangad Railway Station for the benefit of commuters.

Prominent among those present in the meeting, included Naib Subedar (Retd) Munshi Ram, Simar Dass, Som Nath Taroch, Munshi Ram, Romesh Chand, Parshotam Lal and Baldev Raj.
