Infrastructure at GMC Srinagar, Associated Hospitals to be enhanced: Minister

Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat today called upon the Principal Government Medical College, Srinagar to take all necessary steps to further augment the medicare services in the GMC and all its associated hospitals to meet the heavy rush of patients.

During his visit to SMHS Hospital here today, the Minister said that health is core area of the Government and every effort will be made to equip all the health institutions, especially the tertiary care centres with modern diagnostic gadgets to extend all kinds of medical services to the patients at their doorsteps.

He called upon the doctors and para-medics to render their services in missionary mode and try to win minds and hearts of the patients with politeness and humble attitude. He said medicos are lucky enough to whom the almighty has provided an opportunity to serve the mankind, thus they must make their earnest efforts to maintain the dignity of this noble profession.

While reviewing the functioning of the SMHS, the Minister directed the Principal to identify all the vacant posts of various categories and take necessary measures for their filling through the concerned recruitment agencies on fast-track basis. Authorities should monitor the recruitment process regularly to ensure timely filling up of various vacancies causing due to retirement or promotion quotas so that the services in different wings do not suffer for want of manpower, said the Minister.

The Minister extensively interacted with the doctors, para-medics, patients and their attendants and received detailed feedback of services, vis-à-vis rush of patients and further requirements to improve the facilities. He laid thrust on improving the sanitation in and around the hospital and a well-knit mechanism to facilitate the patients, especially in the emergency block.

The doctors and paramedics also brought some issues relating to the functioning of the institution, working conditions, requirements to improve things on ground. The Minister assured to address the issues on priority. 

During the inspection of various units, wards, the Minister also interacted with a Police jawan, who was injured a few days ago in some militancy related incident, and directed the administration to provide free and best possible treatment to him. He wished him speedy recovery.
