‘World Red Cross Day’ observed across Jammu

With ‘Everywhere for everyone’ as theme of this year’s celebration, the World Red Cross Day was today observed by various organizations across different parts of Jammu division.

Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Jammu, organized a function to mark the birth anniversary of Jean Henry Dunant, the founder of Red Cross Movement and recipient of first Nobel Peace Prize.

Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. M. K. Bhandari was the chief guest on the occasion while Additional District Development Commissioner, Anuradha Gupta, SSP, Dr. Sunil Gupta besides other senior officers were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bhandari stressed on the need for providing first aid training to staff of various government departments including Health, Social Welfare and Transport departments so that they can have first-hand experience at the time of emergency.

Divisional Commissioner lauded the role of Red Cross Society for providing first aid to victims of accidents and border areas at the time of ceasefire violations.

Cultural items were presented by various schools of Jammu district whereas a symposium was also organized on the theme.

Later, Dr. Bhandari felicitated campers of Inter State JRC training camp at Kurukshetra and their institutions, volunteers of Red Cross, and students of various schools for their services rendered to IRCS.

Among others who were present on the occasion included veteran Red Cross Society, Jugal Mahajan, Secretary, IRCS, Jammu, R.C. Puri besides faculty and students of various schools of Jammu district.

At Udhampur, the day was observed with a rally taken out on the occasion from Government Higher Secondary School which was flagged off by Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Subhash Chander Dogra, Udhampur.

The rally comprising large number of students  holding placards and banners in their hands,  passed through Gole Market, Ramnagar Chowk, Court Road, Slathia Chowk and finally culminated at Deputy Commissioner ‘s office . The rally was followed by a short function in which students from different educational institutions threw light on the philanthropic services of the Red Cross Society.

          Besides, medical camps were also organized in every block of the district.

Speaking on the occasion, the ACR exhorted upon the students to voluntarily participate and contribute towards this noble cause. He also asked them to aware the common masses about the Red Cross Society and its working.

Secretary, District Red Cross Society Udhampur Dr. V. P Sharma, Principal GHSS Boys, Ved Prakash, Dy CEO Ram Kumar Gupta, Teachers, Life Members, Volunteers and large number of students participated in the programme

At Poonch, the event was celebrated across the district with its main programme held at Krishan Chander Park, which was attended by the students from different educational institution, social workers, volunteers and prominent citizens.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Harun, who is the Chairman of Red Cross Society (DRCS), was chief guest on the occasion.

 A debate competition was organized in which five students were awarded with mementos and certificates besides other speakers were awarded with consolation prizes.

The Deputy Commissioner exhorted upon the participants to further intensify membership drive for ensuring massive participation of volunteers in this noble movement.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner along with SSP and others flagged off a rally which commenced from government Girls Model Higher Secondary School Poonch and culminated at Krishan Chander Park.

At Ramban, to mark “World Red Cross Day” Red Cross Mela, Cultural and Sports Carnival was organized for the first time aimed at raising funds for the District Red Cross Society and creating mass awareness regarding the objective of the Society.

            District Development Commissioner, Mohammad Aijaz, inaugurated the Red Cross Mela and launched the Red Cross Express  in presence of  senior officers of different departments, prominent citizens,   Beopar Mandal Industries Association, NGOs besides political and religious organisations.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC highlighted the purpose of mela and lauded the efforts of Volunteers of QRT Ramban in extending immediate support to victims of accidents and natural calamities in last few years and also generating huge resources for the society.

 A cultural team of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Doda, Jeeven and party, cultural troupes of BVM HS, GGHS Ramban, National Academy and band of musicians presented a musical programme.

          The three day Mela will present cultural and sports events, shooting, hanging worlds, children games and play world, roller coaster ride, ethnic food courts, launch of Red Cross Express, exhibition stall of departments and demonstration sessions by different departments besides creating awareness on cashless transactions.    

           The event will conclude on May 10, 2017 with Raffle Draw and a cultural bonanza by the National performers of Thali Dance and other renounced artists.  

             Besides, the Red Cross Conferences by Rural Development Department  and   Red Cross Health Mela by Helath department were also organised at Block levels in the district.

At Doda, the District Red Cross Society in collaboration with Government Boys Higher Secondary School celebrated the day in which District Development Commissioner, Bhupinder Kumar, was the chief guest.

           A large number of students representing various schools participated in the celebration with their presentations in painting competition, Rangooli, debate and cultural items on the theme of Red Cross day.

          The DDC, while interacting with the students, highlighted the importance of celebration of Red Cross day saying that the day is being observed to recognize the services and contribution of volunteers towards the society besides further promoting the cause of this noble mission.

            DDC also felicitated the winners of different competitions organised on the theme “Everywhere for Everyone”.

In debate competition, Aqsa Dev a student of HSS Girls and Nasir Hussian HSS boys jointly bagged the 1st position while Kehkasha Zareen of Faridia model HSS emerged 2nd and 3rd prize was again jointly shared by Rudar Neel Singh of Alfa Institute and Mujeeb-ur-rehman of Shaheen public school.

           In Painting competition Alina Suhrawardy of HSS Girls emerged as the winner whereas Sobia Tabassum and Ehrar Naik got 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

           The competition of Rangooli was won by HSS boys while HSS Girls and Shaheen Public stood second and third respectively.

           Earlier, the DDC flagged off a rally of students carrying banners of Red Cross depicting various health messages which marched throughout the town finally culminating at HSS boys.

At Reasi, the district administration celebrated the International day with a huge participation of officers, RCS volunteers, prominent citizens and students.

Deputy Commissioner, Ravinder Kumar, who was the chief guest on the occasion, appreciated the role of DRCS and its volunteers especially during the natural and manmade mishaps in this accident prone area.

ACR, while giving detail of red cross activities, educated the public about the importance, role and achievements of the RCO in helping the people in distress.

Honorary General Secretary Red Cross Society, Rakesh Wazir, appealed the people for donations for the DRCS which can be used in the district during the time of crisis or emergency.

Later, a small movie of Red Cross activities in the district was displayed on the occasion.  

On the occasion, a rally was also flagged off by Deputy Commissioner, officers and RCS members which was attended by local volunteers, cadets of National Cadet Corp (NCC), teachers, students and women.

Meanwhile, RCS activities were also celebrated in schools and other institutions at Mahore, Dharmari, Pouni and Arnas.
