Authorities impose restrictions in Kupwara

Authorities on Friday imposed restrictions in parts of Kashmir’s Kupwara district to thwart any possible protest against the civilian killing in the district on Thursday.

A civilian identified as Muhammad Yousuf Bhat was killed by the force during the protests in the area. Three army men, including a Captain and two militants were killed yesterday after the militants attacked an army garrison in Panzgam village of the district.

The locals after the incident took to streets to demand the bodies of the two slain militants during which the forces opened fire, resulting in the killing of 55 year old civilian.

The authorities today imposed restriction in the parts of the district to thwart any possible protest against the killing of Bhat.

Witnesses said that a huge contingent of forces was deployed on the roads to thwart any protests. They said that the forces had erected concertina wires on some of the roads as well.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown against yesterday’s civilian killing was observed.

All the shops and business establishments remained closed in the area while the vehicular movement was thin on roads.

Meanwhile, minor clashed erupted in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district after the Friday congregational prayers culminated in the town.

Witnesses said that the minor gathering of youth after prayers assembled on the road and clashed with forces.

Witnesses said that a small rally from the Jamia Masjid Sopore chanting anti-India slogans marched towards main Chowk Sopore, the rally was disrupted by police following which the clashes erupted in Batapora area between the youth and the forces.

The forces fired tear smoke shells to disperse the youth who were throwing stone son them.
