Congress draws policy planning roadmap

Senior Congress leader and former MP, Tariq Hameed Karra, Thursday held a  one-on-one meeting with the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, to discuss the roadmap for the newly constituted policy planning group for Jammu and Kashmir.

Karra told a local news agency that he briefed the party president about the meetings held between him and the other members of the policy planning group including former PM, Dr Manmohan Singh. Former MP also  briefed Sonia Gandhi about the volatile situation in Kashmir. “The party president was very concerned about the present situation of Kashmir and she expressed hope that this group will help in bringing peace in the Valley in a positive and constructive manner,” he said.

“I also briefed her (Sonia Gandhi) that this group should not be seen like the  previous fruitless committees and parliamentary delegations constituted at different times . I  was assured that Congress party has taken a very conscious decision for constituting this high powered group to take out the hapless people of Jammu and Kashmir out of the quagmire,’’ he said.

“I will be meeting the other three group members including P Chidambaram, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ambika Soni to take their viewpoints regarding the future course of action for this group. The outcome of the meetings will be brought to the notice of group chairman and former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and the party vice-president, Rahul Gandhi,” he said.

He said that soon a formal meeting of the group will be held to discuss the future strategy, after basic ground work is completed, which includes reaching out to all the stakeholders.

Karra also had a discussion on the party affairs regarding the “state as well as the rest of the country.’’
