Valley to plant 6 lakh mulberry trees this year

BARAMULLA: In the backdrop of weeklong festival of World Arbor Day, Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, Asgar Hassan Samoon kick started mulberry plantation drive in Kashmir division by planting a mulberry sapling in Nursery at Basic Seed Station, Sericulture Development Department, Mirgund here on Saturday.
Director Sericulture, Malik Farooq and other officers of the department were also present on the occasion, an official spokesperson said.
Department of Sericulture is planning to plant 6 lakh mulberry plants of exotic varieties in Kashmir division this year.
Due to concerted efforts of the Department of Sericulture, there has been tremendous enhancement in cocoon production both quantitatively as well as qualitatively thereby bringing increase the financial the returns of the silkworm rearers.
