TAAK also proposed the formation of development authority in the name of Toasmaidan.
“TAAK has pledged with people to lead from the front in order to save the virgin meadow Toasmaidan and bring it into the tourism map,” general secretary, TAAK, Shaukat Putoo said and urged the concerned ministry and the Tourism Department, to save the tourism destination.
Toasmaidan, a vast meadow in central Kashmir’s Budgam district is being used by the Indian Army as a firing range since 1980, after it was leased by the Jammu and Kashmir government to them. Lease of Toasmaidan to Indian Army, which is expiring in April 2014, was extended for 10 years by PDP led government in 2004. There has been lot of resistance from the locals and people associated with tourism trade for extending the lease to Army any further.
