Subsidy worth Rs 6 lakh distributed among Srinagar cattle farmers

SRINAGAR: Cheques worth Rs 6 lakhs were distributed by District Development Commissioner, Farooq Ahmad Shah, here on Thursday among cattle farmers of the district Srinagar as 25 percent subsidy for purchase of the dairy cows.
This subsidy component was distributed under National Mission for Protein Supplement (NMPS) and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) in which 50 beneficiaries were benefitted, an official spokesperson said. A total subsidy of Rs16.90 lakhs has been distributed by the department till date during this financial year under the said scheme.
The farmers on this occasion requested District Development Commissioner Srinagar to ensure availability of cattle feed and wheat bran on subsidized rates at some suitable locations in the district.
The District Development Commissioner assured them that he will look into the matter. He appreciated this initiative of Animal Husbandry Department and stressed upon the farmers to adopt modern animal Husbandry practices to boost their produce so that the district reaches self-sufficiency.
On the occasion, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Dr. Riyaz Ahmad highlighted the other income generating schemes of the department and also gave a brief account of the incentives given to the farmers of the district under various schemes whose ultimate aim is to boost the milk?production in the district to reach the level of self sufficiency.
