Poonch: Government Degree College, Mendhar (Poonch) Tuesday organized a quiz competition for its students.
The completion was organized by the Department of Chemistry under the guidance of its head Professor Shokat Hussain, officials said. As many as 25 students participated in the quiz after their selection on the basis of screening test. The students were divided into four groups –Oxides, Alkanol, Halides and Metalloids. The quiz was composed of ten rounds and the score was calculated on the spot.
Oxides bagged the first prize, while Halides and Alkanol secured second and third positions respectively.
Prof Shabir Hussain Shah, Principal of the college presided over the function in which Prof Haqeekat Singh Isher, head PG Department of Chemistry, Government College Rajouri was the chief guest.
In his presidential address, Prof Shah appreciated the students and the Department of Chemistry for conducting the quiz. He stressed upon the students to go through revised, updated and elaborated literature.
Prof Zaffar Iqbal and Prof Qulb-e-Murtaza acted as anchors in the function that was also attended by Dr M Azam, Dr Nayeem Ahmed Malik, Prof Sarshad Hussain, Prof Mohammad Akram  Dr Mahroof Khan, Dr. Firdous Nazir, Prof Sajad Ahmed Dar and Prof Sayer Ahmed Dar.  The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Prof Shokit Hussain.
