Fisheries Deptt collects Rs 4.5 lakh from offenders in Anantnag

ANANTNAG: The Fisheries Department provided one lakh quality brown trout fingerling stocking to be carried in trout stream of the district during the current year in phase second in the streams of Lidder, Kokernag, Brenghi, Verinag, Chatapal and Panzath.
The department of Fisheries is performing various activities for conservation of natural water resources and to check illegal activities and has constituted district level anti poaching parties to carry out random checking, an official statement said. As many as 800 cases have been framed against offenders and an amount to the tune of Rs 5.86 lakhs have been realised on account of compensation and fine.
The department has already stocked various trout streams of the district with quality fish seed of brown trout of 40,000 numbers. In order to boost the angling programme, steps have been taken by the department to give positive results and 827 Anglers both foreign as well as locals have done fishing with biggest catch up of 14 LBS of brown trout caught by one angler in Bringe stream during angling competition organized by the department in May last year.
