Power restored on war footing
Poonch, Rajouri: In the wake of devastating flash floods caused by heavy rainfall, top officials from Jammu’s administration and police have intensified rescue and restoration efforts across Poonch and Rajouri districts. Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and IGP Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti visited flood-affected areas in Poonch, including Sangla village, where they met with families who lost loved ones, extended condolences, and directed authorities to accelerate relief and infrastructure restoration.
Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma briefed the media on the ongoing rescue operations in Rajouri, highlighting that nearly 230 people have been rescued and evacuated, with efforts ongoing to locate missing persons and provide immediate aid to over 450 displaced residents in relief centers.
In addition to rescue operations, the Jammu Power Development Corporation Limited (JPDCL) conducted detailed inspections of damaged power infrastructure in both districts. Managing Director Gurpal Singh reviewed the progress of repairs to crucial lines and towers, ensuring that restoration work proceeds swiftly and safely. Teams are actively working to re-establish power supply, utilizing available materials and deploying resources to restore essential services at the earliest.
Officials emphasized that the situation remains critical but manageable, with coordinated efforts across administration, police, rescue agencies, and power departments. Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant, follow weather advisories, and avoid flood-prone areas. Emergency contact numbers have been publicized, and all departments continue operating on high alert to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected populations as recovery efforts advance.
