GANDERBAL: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ganderbal, operating under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) organized an input distribution cum awareness programme under the ICAR-sponsored project entitled Strengthening Livelihoods and Agricultural Resilience of Tribal and Marginal Farmers in Ganderbal District through Technology-Driven Resource Packages.
Conceived under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, this initiative aims to bridge the developmental gap by delivering science-backed, sustainable farming technologies directly to the most remote and marginalized tribal communities.
The event was graced by Jenab Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar Sahab (Former MLA) as the Chief Guest, along with Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth (Director Extension) as the Guest of Honour. The dignitaries underscored transformative power of sustainable technologies in minimizing farm drudgery, boosting crop yields and securing long-term economic prosperity for tribal farming families.
The session started with Welcome Address by Dr. Gazala Nazir, Scientist KVK Ganderbal. Dr. Ajaz Ahmad Malik, Head of KVK Ganderbal and Principal Investigator of the project, emphasized that the initiative delivers an integrated, eco-friendly package of inputs and machinery tailored to strengthen local farming systems and build resilient rural households. Dr. Malik further stated that the project will cover more than 8 villages and nearly 800 households, aiming to transform tribal agriculture into a model of sustainability and prosperity.
In his presidential address, Jenab Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar, former MLA commended KVK Ganderbal’s persistent efforts in reaching out remote farming communities. He stated that empowering tribal farmers with modern technology and high-quality inputs remains vital for regional socio-economic advancement and applauded the Kendra’s commitment to transferring agricultural research straight from the lab to the field.
In her address, Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Director Extension, SKUAST-K, appreciated the extension outreach of KVK Ganderbal and stressed transforming traditional farming into a commercially viable enterprise. She explained that KVK’s broader mission is to foster sustainable resilience within tribal farming communities, reiterating the institution’s commitment to enhancing farmers’ livelihoods through continuous capacity building, practical field demonstrations, and climate-smart agricultural strategies.
Later, input distribution was conducted among tribal farmers of district Ganderbal. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by Dr. Faiqa Syeed, Scientist, KVK Ganderbal expressing sincere gratitude to all the dignitaries, participants and stakeholders for their active participation in the event.
