SRINAGAR: Continuing its relentless campaign against drug trafficking as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, J&K Police have detained two habitual drug peddlers under the provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, one in Sopore and the other in Anantnag.
In Sopore, the police detained Umar Mohammad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Sheikhpora, Tujjar Sharief. Umar Mohammad Sheikh, a repeat offender involved in narcotics peddling, has been repeatedly involved in drug trafficking activities despite prior legal actions. His continued involvement posed a significant threat to society, especially the youth.
Based on his criminal history and ongoing activities, Sopore Police prepared a detailed dossier, which was submitted to the competent authority. Consequently, a detention order was issued under the PIT-NDPS Act. The accused has been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu. A police spokesperson emphasized that this action is part of the police’s strategy to dismantle the narcotics ecosystem by taking strict preventive measures against habitual offenders and eradicating illegal drug trade.
Similarly, in Anantnag, the police detained Faizan Misgar, son of Abdul Rashid Misgar, a resident of Mattan Chowk. Acting on a legally issued detention warrant, Anantnag Police executed the order after completing all formalities and lodged him in District Jail Bhaderwah. Faizan Misgar has a history of repeated involvement in drug peddling, which continued to threaten public health and safety, particularly among the youth.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating the drug menace and pledged to continue stringent legal actions against drug peddlers and offenders. They also urged the public to cooperate by sharing credible information about drug-related activities to help build a drug-free society.
