SRINAGAR: The Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has expressed strong support for the resumption of constructive India-Pakistan dialogue, emphasizing that lasting peace and regional stability can only be achieved through sustained diplomatic engagement.
While acknowledging India’s legitimate security concerns and condemning terrorism in all its forms, the Association highlighted that dialogue remains essential for reducing tensions and preventing conflict.
JKSA’s National Convenor, Nasir Khuehami, in a statement issued here, pointed out the profound human, social, and economic toll decades of conflict have taken on the people of Jammu & Kashmir. He stressed that escalations between India and Pakistan disrupt education, livelihoods, trade, tourism, and development, urging sincere efforts to promote peace and foster an environment conducive to growth.
Khuehami welcomed civil society voices advocating for resumed dialogue and confidence-building measures, noting that recent remarks from groups like the RSS about engaging with Pakistan reinforce the idea that diplomacy and security are not mutually exclusive but mutually reinforcing. The Association also appreciated the appeal by 100 prominent citizens from both countries calling for renewed dialogue, viewing it as a timely and wise step toward peace.
The JKSA urged the Indian and Pakistani governments to revive bilateral talks, rebuild communication channels, and strengthen confidence-building initiatives. It emphasized that dialogue is a sign of political maturity and confidence, not weakness, and that even countries that once fought devastating wars have found ways to reconcile through sustained negotiation and political courage.
Highlighting the regional importance, the Association noted that stable relations among South Asian nations like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are vital for unlocking the region’s economic and developmental potential. It called for regional cooperation in areas like trade, connectivity, education, and climate resilience, emphasizing that shared progress depends on moving beyond colonial legacies and geopolitical tensions.
The Association reiterated that terrorism and extremism have no place in democratic societies and must be confronted with firmness, while diplomatic engagement should fully respect India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It emphasized that the sacrifices of soldiers and civilians must inspire efforts to build a future with fewer conflicts.
For the youth in Jammu & Kashmir, peace is essential for progress, providing opportunities for education, employment, entrepreneurship, and cultural exchange. Khuehami concluded that peace is a sign of strength and wisdom, and that responsible diplomacy is crucial for a secure, prosperous South Asia benefiting future generations.
