SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Police are intensifying their efforts to combat drug trafficking and related illegal activities across the Union Territory under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan. In Pulwama, Ganderbal, and Shopian, authorities have undertaken targeted operations to dismantle drug networks, remove illegal assets linked to peddlers, and eliminate sources of narcotics, reaffirming their commitment to creating a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
In Pulwama, police, along with the Executive Magistrate and revenue officials, conducted a coordinated crackdown against illegal assets associated with drug trafficking. During the operation, two illegally encroached properties on state land in Qazigund and Kisrigam within Kakapora jurisdiction were removed. These actions aim to dismantle the infrastructure supporting narcotics activities by targeting illegal land holdings often used for storage or concealment of drugs and related activities.
Continuing its crackdown, Ganderbal police achieved a major breakthrough by arresting Md Qudus, a notorious drug peddler, during a routine naka check at Dar Mohallah Baba-Diryadin. The police recovered approximately 1.848 kilograms of bhung patri (a ganja-like substance) from his possession. The accused, a resident of Bihari Gunj in Madhepura district, Bihar, was found to be actively involved in distributing narcotics among local youth, posing a significant threat to community health and safety.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act (FIR No.106/2026), and further investigations are ongoing to uncover the entire network and connections involved in drug trafficking. The police have urged the public to cooperate by sharing information confidentially about drug-related activities to help eradicate the menace.
In Shopian, authorities launched a special anti-narcotics drive targeting wild cannabis plants growing along roadsides, agricultural land boundaries, and neglected patches in Wachi and Hermain villages. The police surveyed these areas, uprooting and destroying the plants immediately to prevent their misuse for narcotic purposes. This initiative is part of regular efforts to eliminate potential sources of drugs and raise awareness among local communities about the dangers of illicit cultivation.
The J&K Police emphasize their unwavering commitment to a drug-free society and call on citizens to remain vigilant and report any illegal cultivation, drug trafficking, or substance abuse. They assure that the identities of informants will be kept confidential, encouraging community participation in the fight against narcotics.
Under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, the police’s sustained operations across Pulwama, Ganderbal, and Shopian demonstrate a resolute drive to dismantle drug networks, remove illegal assets, and eliminate sources of narcotics. These efforts aim to safeguard youth, promote health, and foster a safer, healthier environment in Jammu and Kashmir, bringing the region closer to its vision of a drug-free society.
