SRINAGAR: The Civil Engineering Department, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, emerged victorious in the final of the Inter-Department Cricket Tournament 2026 held at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, defeating the Electrical Engineering Department by 60 runs in a thrilling title clash.
The final match was played between the Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering departments. After winning the toss, the Civil Engineering team elected to bat first and posted an imposing total of 210 runs in their allotted 15 overs.
The innings was anchored by a sensational knock from Adnan, who smashed 112 runs off just 42 balls. He was ably supported by Abu Bakar, who scored 35 runs in 20 balls, while Ahsan-ul-Haq contributed 32 runs off 22 deliveries to propel Civil Engineering to a commanding total.
For the Electrical Engineering Department, Mohd Imran and Ayush Shrivastava claimed one wicket each.
In reply, the Electrical Engineering Department managed 149 runs for the loss of eight wickets, falling short by 60 runs. Vipin top-scored with 40 runs off 30 balls, while captain Mir Shariq played a quickfire knock of 33 runs from 14 deliveries. However, the target proved beyond their reach.
With the ball, Ahsan-ul-Haq starred for Civil Engineering, taking three wickets, while Abu Bakar chipped in with two wickets to help seal the victory.
The Civil Engineering Department thus lifted the Inter-Department Cricket Tournament 2026 trophy, concluding the competition on a high note.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, congratulated the winning team and all participants for displaying exceptional sportsmanship and competitive spirit throughout the tournament.
He said such sporting events play a vital role in fostering teamwork, leadership, discipline, and a healthy campus environment, while contributing to the holistic development of students.
Prof. Kanaujia also presented the winner’s trophy to the Civil Engineering Department and the runner-up trophy to the Electrical Engineering Department.
He congratulated both teams for their outstanding performances and commended the players for exhibiting remarkable talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof. Atikur Rehman, praised the organizers and participating teams for making the tournament a grand success. He noted that extracurricular and sporting activities are integral to student life and help nurture qualities that complement academic excellence.
Associate Dean Students’ Welfare, Dr. Shashikant, lauded the enthusiasm and commitment shown by students during the tournament. He emphasized that NIT Srinagar remains committed to promoting sports and wellness activities on campus and providing students with opportunities to showcase their talents beyond academics.
Dr. Manoj Kumar, in-charge Faculty Sports Activity and Students (SAS), and other officials were also present on the occasion.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony attended by faculty members, staff, and students, who applauded the efforts of both finalists and celebrated the successful completion of the Inter-Department Cricket Tournament 2026.
The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from all departments and attracted a large gathering of students, faculty members, and staff, making it one of the most engaging sporting events of the academic session.
