Thousands join grand congregation
KANGAN: The 130th annual Urs of revered Sufi saint Hazrat Mian Nizam-ud-Din Kiyani (RA) concluded on Monday at Baba Nagri Wangath in Kangan area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district amid an atmosphere of deep spirituality and devotion, with thousands of devotees from across Jammu and Kashmir and various parts of the country participating in the two-day religious gathering.
The annual Urs, one of the largest spiritual congregations in Kashmir, witnessed a massive influx of pilgrims who arrived at the shrine to pay homage to the revered saint and seek divine blessings. Devotees from Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Jammu, Udhampur, Ramban, Bandipora, Anantnag and several other districts, besides followers from different parts of India, participated in the event.
Throughout the two-day Urs, the shrine complex remained crowded with devotees engaged in prayers, recitation of the Holy Quran, remembrance of Allah (Zikr), and other religious activities. The gathering reflected the enduring spiritual influence of Hazrat Mian Nizam-ud-Din Kiyani (RA), whose teachings continue to inspire generations of followers.
On the concluding day, special religious congregations were held during which prominent Islamic scholars and religious personalities delivered sermons highlighting the life, teachings and spiritual legacy of the saint. Speakers emphasized the values of love, compassion, tolerance, selflessness and service to humanity, urging people to follow the path shown by the revered Sufi saint.
The Urs culminated with a special congregational Dua led by Sajada Nasheen Baba Ji Sahab Larvi, Mian Altaf Ahmad. Thousands of devotees joined the concluding prayers, seeking peace, prosperity and harmony for Jammu and Kashmir and the entire nation.
Many devotees expressed deep emotional and spiritual attachment to Baba Nagri and described the Urs as a source of inspiration and inner peace.
“This sacred place gives us immense spiritual satisfaction. Every year we wait for the Urs and feel blessed to be part of it. The atmosphere here strengthens our faith and brings peace to our hearts,” said a devotee from Rajouri.
Another pilgrim from Doda said, “We travel long distances to attend the Urs because it is not just a religious gathering but a lesson in humanity, brotherhood and devotion. The teachings of Hazrat Mian Nizam-ud-Din Kiyani (RA) remain relevant even today.”
A devotee from Bandipora remarked, “The gathering unites people from different regions and backgrounds. We pray together and remember the values of love and compassion taught by the saint. This is the true spirit of Sufism.”
The gathering also served as a symbol of communal harmony and brotherhood, bringing together people from different regions and backgrounds under a shared spiritual bond. Many devotees described the Urs as an opportunity to reconnect with the teachings of Islam and strengthen bonds of unity and mutual respect.
Elaborate arrangements had been put in place by the district administration, police, health department and volunteers to facilitate the smooth conduct of the annual event. Traffic regulation, security measures, medical facilities and other essential services were provided to ensure the comfort and safety of the large number of pilgrims attending the Urs.
As the two-day spiritual congregation concluded, devotees departed from Baba Nagri carrying with them memories of devotion, unity and the timeless teachings of Hazrat Mian Nizam-ud-Din Kiyani (RA), whose message of peace and humanity continues to resonate across generations.
