SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Judicial Academy launched the Pre-Appointment Induction Training for 39 newly selected Civil Judges (Junior Division) at its Srinagar campus. The program was inaugurated by Justice Arun Palli of the Supreme Court of India, in the presence of Acting Chief Justice Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Justice Rajnesh Oswal, and other high court judges.
Justice Palli emphasized that judicial service is a public trust, urging new officers to uphold integrity, humility, and fairness. He highlighted their role in representing the judiciary to citizens and encouraged continuous learning to strengthen public confidence. Justice Kumar congratulated the officers and stressed the importance of integrity, discipline, and compassion in judicial duties. He advised embracing technology responsibly and discharging duties fearlessly and fairly.
Justice Oswal highlighted the transition from the Bar to the Bench, emphasizing the judge’s primary allegiance to the Constitution and the rule of law. He called for patience, restraint, independence, and ongoing learning as vital qualities for judicial officers.
Director Naseer Ahmad Dar underscored the importance of judicial education in strengthening justice delivery and explained that the induction aims to equip officers with essential knowledge, skills, and ethical foundations.
The program’s academic sessions commenced with an introduction to the training module, led by Justices Oswal and Sanjay Parihar, outlining objectives and expected outcomes. The first session covered the professional journey ahead for the officers. Next, Director Dar conducted a session on the “Role and Ethical Expectations of a Civil Judge,” focusing on courtroom discipline, judicial temperament, dignity, impartiality, and professionalism.
In the afternoon, Justice Bashir Ahmad Kirmani led a session on “Foundations of Judicial Ethics,” emphasizing ethics as the cornerstone of judicial conduct. He highlighted judicial independence as rooted in conscience and moral integrity, essential for impartiality and upholding the rule of law.
Participants actively engaged throughout the day. The induction program will continue with further thematic sessions aimed at enhancing judicial competence, ethical awareness, and excellence among the new Civil Judges.
