Budgam: Police on Tuesday revealed the name of the person arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a minor girl from Galwanpora village, after completing all required medico-legal, forensic, and evidentiary procedures linked to the case.
In a statement, Budgam Police said the accused’s identity was withheld initially because several key legal steps were still in progress, and revealing it earlier could have harmed the investigation and the legal process.
The accused has been identified as Mudasir Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Nabi Mir, a resident of Galwanpora Sebdan in Budgam district.
Police said the probe so far has confirmed that no other person was involved in the crime.
Urging the public to maintain peace and communal harmony, Budgam Police appealed to citizens not to take the law into their own hands or spread rumours, speculative content, or unverified claims about the case. The statement warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found circulating false information or trying to disturb public order.
Police also requested media outlets and social media users to report and comment responsibly, stating that the spread of misleading or unverified information could cause unnecessary public panic and harm law and order.
