SRINAGAR: Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam on Tuesday observed the 63rd death anniversary of its former President, eminent religious scholar, spiritual leader, and educationist, Mirwaiz Molvi Atiqullah Shah (RA), with deep reverence and respect.
On the occasion, the President of the Anjuman, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, paid rich tributes to the late Mirwaiz, describing him as a visionary leader, a symbol of spirituality, and a selfless servant of the community. He said that Mirwaiz Atiqullah Shah (RA) devoted his life to the educational, religious, and social upliftment of society, and that his legacy continues to inspire generations.
A special commemorative function was organised by the Anjuman in which M.S. Rahman Shams, faculty members, staff, and students remembered the late Mirwaiz for his remarkable contribution to education and reformative efforts. Speakers termed his tenure as a “golden era” in the history of the institution and highlighted that despite severe financial constraints between 1947 and 1962, he successfully carried forward the mission of the Anjuman through public support and dedication.
Speakers also recalled his important role in the establishment of Islamia College of Science and Commerce, which initially functioned within the premises of the Anjuman.
Meanwhile, Islamia Oriental College organised a special Qur’an recitation and prayer gathering for the spiritual blessings of the late Mirwaiz and other former Presidents of the Anjuman.
