KANGAN: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kangan has issued an urgent advisory aimed at preventing drowning incidents amid rising water levels in various water bodies across the sub-division.
According to the advisory order, authorities have observed that a growing number of people, including youth, children and elderly persons, are venturing near open water bodies such as Nallah Sindh, Wangath Nallah, PDC Canal and Barwalla Waterfall, despite the absence of proper safety infrastructure and rescue mechanisms.
The advisory stated that these locations are highly unsafe due to the lack of certified swimming facilities and safety arrangements, adding that several tragic drowning incidents in the past have highlighted the risks involved.
People have been strongly advised not to enter, venture near, or play around open water sources under any circumstances. Parents and guardians have also been urged to keep strict watch over children and prevent them from going near nallahs and other water bodies.
To strengthen monitoring and surveillance, the administration has directed the Assistant Executive Engineer CMD/Generation USHP-II Kangan and Flood Control Division Ganderbal to activate field staff at vulnerable locations.
Tehsildars of Kangan and Gund have been asked to mobilize Lumberdars and Chowkidars for surveillance and to discourage risky activities, while SHOs of Kangan, Ganderbal, Gund and Sonamarg have been instructed to maintain strict vigil around water bodies.
The advisory was issued by the Office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Kangan, in the interest of public safety
