Police demolish drug peddler’s ‘illegal’ commercial complex worth ₹1 crore

Srinagar: In a significant move against drug trafficking networks and illegal assets, police in Anantnag facilitated the demolition of an “illegally” constructed commercial complex at Waghama, Bijbehara, valued at approximately ₹1 crore. The action is part of the ongoing crackdown on narcotics-related activities in the district.
The property belonged to notorious drug peddler Sajad Ahmad Rather, son of Mohammad Abdullah Rather, a resident of Waghama Bijbehara. He is involved in FIR No. 63/2017 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act registered at Police Station Yaripora.
“During verification, authorities discovered that the shopping complex had been unlawfully built on state land,” a police spokesperson said. “Following due legal procedures and in coordination with concerned civil authorities, the illegal structure was demolished to dismantle the financial backbone of drug syndicates operating in the area.”
The police reaffirm their unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. They also emphasized that assets acquired through illegal means or encroachment for criminal purposes will be identified and actioned against strictly under the law.
