Srinagar: Lieutenant General Prashant Srivastava on Friday relinquished command of the Chinar Corps after 19 months at the helm, handing over responsibilities to Lieutenant General Balbir Singh, who officially assumed command.
During his tenure, Lt. Gen. Srivastava oversaw key operational and administrative initiatives that contributed to regional stability. “His leadership was marked by successful counter-infiltration and counter-terrorism operations, notably through Operation SINDOOR and Operation MAHADEV, which led to the apprehension of those responsible for the Pahalgam attack,” PRO (Defence), Srinagar said.
Lt. Gen Srivastave also managed the incident-free conduct of the 2025 Amarnath Yatra and launched several nation-building efforts. His community outreach efforts improved relations with local residents, earning respect for his humane approach. Lt. Gen. Srivastava has now been appointed as the Quarter Master General at the Indian Army Headquarters in New Delhi.

Upon taking charge, he paid homage at the Chinar War Memorial in Srinagar, honoring fallen soldiers. Lt. Gen. Singh brings extensive operational experience in counter-infiltration and counter-terrorism across Jammu & Kashmir and the North East, including previous command of the Counter Insurgency Force (Victor) in South Kashmir.
In his inaugural address, Lt. Gen. Singh pledged to work closely with civil authorities and the local community to strengthen peace, stability, and development in the region. He urged all societal sections to cooperate with security agencies to address ongoing challenges.
