PULWAMA: The Department of Biotechnology at Government Degree College (GDC) Pulwama organised a day-long programme to mark the International Day of Immunology on the theme “Regulatory T Cells: Guardians of Immune Balance,” focusing on understanding their role in shaping approaches to combat cancer, infection, and autoimmune disease.
The programme began with a welcome address by Principal GDC Pulwama, who highlighted the importance of immunology in understanding disease mechanisms and advancing modern healthcare. Dr. Niyaz Ahmad Naikoo, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, presented an overview of the programme and emphasised the relevance of regulatory T cells in maintaining immune homeostasis.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Pervaiz A. Dar from SKUAST, spoke on ‘CAR T Regulatory Cells (CAR-Tregs): Concepts and Clinical Potential’. The post-tea session included two lectures by Dr. Suhail Yousuf and Dr. Shahid Banday from IUST on ‘Tregs: The Immune System’s Double-Edged Sword’ and ‘Reprogramming Immunity: Turning Immune Cells into Living Drugs’, respectively. The talks elaborated on the dual role of regulatory T cells in immune suppression and disease progression, as well as cutting-edge advancements in immunotherapy.
An interactive Immunology Quiz was conducted by Dr. Shah Ubaid Ullah via the Kahoot platform, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students and promoting scientific curiosity and engagement.
The programme proceedings were conducted by Ms. Suraya Qadir. The event witnessed wide participation from students, paramedical students, and faculty members.
