Women’s Reservation Bill defeat reflects BJP’s ill intentions: Akhilesh

Must read

LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill reflects what he described as the BJP’s “ill intentions.”
In a statement, Yadav alleged that the Bill was introduced to divert attention from growing public discontent and accused the BJP of using such measures to mislead people.
He claimed that most initiatives and legislations brought by the party are either aimed at benefiting a select few or at creating divisions in society.
“This time, the BJP attempted to mislead women by creating divisions through the Bill, but the unity of the Opposition thwarted its plans. This is a victory of the country’s awakened public consciousness, which the Opposition represents,” he said.
Yadav further alleged that the BJP has “lost the moral basis” to remain in power following the development.
Questioning the BJP’s stance on women’s issues, he said the party’s outlook remains conservative. He also claimed that there were additional provisions in the Bill that led to opposition against it, suggesting that the matter could have seen broader support if addressed differently after further deliberation in Parliament.
He added that the outcome reflects growing public confidence that political change is imminent.
