TEHRAN: After the announcement of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, both countries will begin talks on finding a lasting end to the war in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, on Friday.
According to the Iranian National Security Council, the negotiations will be based on Tehran’s 10-point proposal.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who brokered the truce along with the country’s Army Chief Asim Munir, had invited delegations from the US and Iran to Islamabad on April 10, 2026 (Friday) for further negotiations.
“With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon,” Sharif said, announcing that the ceasefire will be “EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.”
Hours after the ceasefire announcement, Sharif also held a “substantive conversation” with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
“I conveyed my deep appreciation for the wisdom and sagacity of the Iranian leadership in accepting Pakistan’s offer to host peace talks in Islamabad later this week to work jointly for the return of peace to the region,” he wrote on X.
