AWANTIPORA: Police organised a series of drug awareness programmes as part of its ongoing outreach initiatives across Police District Awantipora.
“These programmes aimed to sensitise the general public, students, and youth about the harmful physical, psychological, and social effects of drug abuse,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
During the interactive sessions, police officers highlighted the growing menace of drug addiction and its adverse impact on individuals, families, and society at large.
Participants were informed about various narcotic and psychotropic substances, early warning signs of addiction, and the serious legal consequences associated with drug abuse and drug trafficking under prevailing laws. Emphasis was also laid on the importance of making informed decisions and adopting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
The officers encouraged participants to remain vigilant, resist peer pressure, and report any information related to drug peddling or abuse to the police. The crucial role of Imams, Khateebs, parents, teachers, and educational institutions in preventing substance abuse was also highlighted.
The participants actively engaged in the sessions and appreciated the efforts of J&K Police for organising such awareness programmes and for taking proactive steps towards building a drug-free society.
