Srinagar: PDP president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday chaired a meeting of senior party leaders to review party functioning and discuss the prevailing situation, during which the party passed a resolution expressing strong solidarity with the people of Iran amid the ongoing conflict.
Addressing the meeting, Mehbooba drew on Kashmir’s deep historical ties with Iran. “Islam came to Kashmir via Iran,” she said, highlighting the cultural and spiritual bonds between the two and urging the people to offer special prayers for peace and relief for Iranians, particularly during the final days of Ramzan.
She hailed the people of Kashmir for standing with Iran and showing compassion during the crisis, and urged Muslim countries to come forward and extend support.
Mehbooba also appealed to the Government of India to stand by Iran. “Iran has historically been a consistent friend of India in difficult times,” she said, calling on New Delhi to reciprocate that friendship.
She further appealed to the Lieutenant Governor and the Director General of Police to release youth who were detained during mourning processions and protests related to the Iran crisis.
