Police bust fake currency circulation racket in Shopian

Shopian: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully dismantled a fake currency racket operating in Shopian, arresting three individuals and recovering fake notes worth ₹79,000/-.
The operation was initiated after Police Station Shopian received a complaint from a local shopkeeper, who reported that an unidentified individual had used counterfeit currency to purchase goods at his shop. Acting swiftly, the police registered FIR No. 33/2026 under relevant sections of law and launched an investigation.
During the course of inquiry, authorities recovered fake currency notes totaling ₹79,000 from the possession of the accused persons and their associate. The suspects have been identified as Mohd Syed Wani, son of Gh Mohiuddin Wani, resident of Batpora Shopian; Mohd Maqbool Naikoo, son of Habibullah Naikoo, resident of Bungam Shopian; and Peerzada Altaf, son of Peerzada Gh Mohd, resident of Tukroo Babnad (BDO Zainapora).
All three suspects have been formally arrested. Further investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the fake currency and to identify other individuals involved in the circulation network.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant during currency transactions and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
