HAJIN: Tehsildar Hajin on Thursday issued a strict order restraining Lumbardars and Chowkidars from unnecessarily visiting or sitting in Patwar Khanas and the Tehsil Office, citing obstruction in official functioning and inconvenience to the general public.
In an order, Tehsildar observed that frequent and unauthorised presence of these functionaries was interfering with the lawful discharge of duties by Patwaris and other revenue officials. It was further noted that such practices were causing harassment to people and, in certain cases, leading to disclosure of personal matters which are required to remain confidential.
The order clarified that under the Revenue laws, Lumbardars and Chowkidars have no authority to sit in Patwar Khanas or interfere in official work, except when officially required, summoned by competent authority, or when work directly related to their lawful duties is involved.
Any act of interference, obstruction or creation of hurdles in official work will be treated as misconduct and a violation of the law, the order stated.
Any Lumbardar or Chowkidar found violating the directions shall invite strict disciplinary and legal action, including reporting to higher authorities for suspension or removal as per rules, it added.
