LONDON: The league phase of the UEFA Champions League 2025–26 has already delivered upsets, with 15-time champion Real Madrid and holder Paris Saint-Germain missing direct qualification for the round of 16.
Under the new format, however, both clubs remain in contention, joining 14 other teams in two-legged playoff ties, with the winners advancing to the knockouts alongside the top eight from the league phase.
