SUMBAL (BANDIPORA): The 16th National Voters’ Day was observed on Sunday at Dak Bangalow Sumbal in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
The occasion was marked by a grand function, with Electoral Registration Officer Murtaza Ahmad Sheikh serving as the chief guest. Several dignitaries attended the event, including the Tehsildar Hajin, BLOs and newly enrolled voters were also present at the program.
Addressing the gathering, Returning Officer Murtaza Sheikh emphasised the importance of achieving a 100% EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) ratio in the Sonawari constituency. He highlighted National Voters’ Day as a platform to educate citizens about their right to vote and its vital role in strengthening democracy.
ERO further stressed the need for transparent and foolproof electoral registration in the district, emphasising that increased voter participation is key to a robust democratic process.
Several speakers at the event underscored the day’s theme, focusing on the right to vote as a fundamental entitlement for every citizen aged 18 and above.
On the occasion, Election registration officer Sonawari 14, Murtaza Ahmad Sheikh, administering a pledge to participating young voters, students, officers and officials, to commit to upholding our nation’s democratic traditions and ensuring the integrity of free, fair, and peaceful elections
During the event, voter identity cards were distributed to newly registered voters.
