Srinagar: Fresh snowfall across Kashmir on Friday disrupted road, rail and air connectivity, leading to the closure of the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway and cancellation of several flights at Srinagar airport, officials said.
Traffic on the Jammu–Srinagar highway (NH-44) was suspended in both directions due to snow accumulation near the Navyug Tunnel, rendering the road unsafe for vehicular movement.
Officials said the Banihal–Baramulla rail section was also suspended after several passenger trains were cancelled in view of heavy snowfall in parts of the Union Territory.
Besides NH-44, the Mughal Road, Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri (SSG) road and Sinthan Top road were closed due to fresh snowfall, they said.
Air traffic was also affected, with at least 17 flights to and from Srinagar airport cancelled owing to adverse weather conditions. Officials said more cancellations were likely if snowfall continued.
Authorities advised commuters to avoid travel on the affected routes and asked passengers to check with airlines for updates on flight schedules.
Snowfall was reported in several parts of the Kashmir Valley since late Thursday night, officials added.
