Srinagar: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) of the Crime Investigation Department on Thursday launched a five-day orientation and capacity building programme on Cybersecurity and New Criminal Laws at its Training Hall in Humhama. The programme will conclude on December 22, 2025.
The initiative, as per officials, is aimed at strengthening the professional competence, investigative skills and legal preparedness of police officers to effectively respond to the growing challenges posed by cyber-enabled crimes and terror-related offences, while ensuring effective implementation of the newly enacted criminal laws. Officers from different districts and specialised units of CIK are taking part in the programme.
The training, the officials said covers emerging trends in cybercrime, including cyberterrorism, online radicalisation, misuse of social media platforms, encrypted communication systems, digital financing of terror networks and cross-border cyber threats. Particular emphasis is being laid on enhancing investigative mechanisms in terror-related cases in line with the new criminal justice framework comprising the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).
Key modules of the programme include advanced cybercrime investigation techniques, digital forensics, cyber threat assessment, cyber hygiene, and procedures related to the collection, handling and admissibility of electronic evidence. The training also focuses on the practical application of the new criminal laws during investigation, prosecution and trial of offences, including those linked to terrorism and organised crime.
The sessions are being delivered by experienced police and prosecuting officers through interactive lectures, case studies and hands-on practical demonstrations.
Officials said the programme underlines CIK’s continued focus on capacity building, professionalism and institutional preparedness in view of evolving cyber threats and recent legal reforms. The initiative is expected to enhance investigative efficiency, ensure legally robust investigations and strengthen the police response to cyber and terror-related offences across the Union Territory.
By equipping officers with updated technological expertise and a clear understanding of the new criminal laws, the programme seeks to contribute towards a more efficient, technology-driven and time-bound criminal justice system, thereby reinforcing public confidence in law enforcement and the rule of law.
