PULWAMA: A three-day hands-on workshop on science laboratory equipment which was organized by Government Degree College, Pulwama under the prestigious STAR College Program funded by DBT, GoI concluded today after providing higher secondary students with an immersive and inspiring learning experience from September 18–20, 2025.
Jointly conducted by the Departments of Chemistry, Physics, and Botany, the workshop created a unique platform for students to provide them a hands-on experience of handling different scientific instruments and equipment. The initiative reflected the vision of the Department of Biotechnology’s STAR College Scheme to ignite critical thinking and strengthen practical skills among aspiring young scientists.
The sessions were held in laboratories where students worked with pH meters, observed the Zeeman effect, studied plant morphology, and prepared culture media for fungal growth. This experiential approach not only strengthened essential laboratory competencies but also ignited scientific curiosity and reinforced the value of experimental science in both academic study and future careers.
The workshop showcased the DBT STAR College Program’s commitment to advancing science education through learning by doing. By inspiring students to pursue higher studies in STEM.
At the valedictory session, participants and teachers shared enthusiastic feedback, and lauded the efforts of principal of the college, Dr. Haris Izhar and Dr. Shah Ubaidullah, Coordinator STAR College and other faculty members for organising and managing such a program. The event concluded with distribution of participation certificates to the participants.
