Hajin: With water levels rising across the Kashmir Valley, the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department has placed all its emergency wings on alert in Sonawari to tackle any eventuality.

Executive Engineer I&FC Sumbal, Mutayib Bashir Shah, told Kashmir Reader that the department is keeping a close watch on the situation. “There is no need to panic. At present, there is no requirement for evacuation or rescue operations,” he said.

The official urged people to remain vigilant and inform the authorities immediately if any untoward incident occurs.

He added that the water level in River Jhelum has crossed the flood mark at several places. “We are continuously monitoring the situation across the Sonawari belt. During the night, our teams strengthened the vulnerable embankments at Hajin, Hakabara, and Sumbal to prevent breaches. The situation is under control so far,” he said.
