Bandipora: The Chief Education Officer (CEO) Bandipora has announced a complete ban on Single-Use Plastic (SUP) in all government and private recognized schools of the district, turning educational institutions into Plastic-Free Zones.
The order, issued following directions from the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, strictly prohibits the use of polythene carry bags, disposable cutlery such as cups, plates, straws and other single-use plastic items within school premises.
The circular has made it mandatory for students, staff and canteen operators to stop using SUP with immediate effect and instead adopt eco-friendly alternatives like cloth bags, steel, metal or glass utensils.
Heads of institutions have been instructed to ensure strict implementation of the ban and to nominate officials who will check bags of students and staff to guarantee compliance. Any individual or establishment found violating the order will face punitive action under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, including seizure of material and penalties.
Officials said the step has been taken to protect the environment and to spread awareness among students about sustainable practices.
